We love our home, everyone does but what makes our home so special? Log houses are made out of wood which is what makes them special. There is something about wood that makes us feel the way we do about our log houses. There may not be a scientific proof or a psychological reasoning for the same but the mystery that surrounds the manner in which wood and log houses exhale a homely warmth can not be denied. Now, it is not all good and great only, the draw back is that log houses require constant maintenance and attention. Which house does not need to be taken care of or maintained on a regular basis.

When you are spending large sum of money it is best to be on the safer side by building it the right way. There are two types of log houses that can be built. Hand crafted and milled log houses. True to their name, handcrafted log houses are built the way our ancestors built their houses centuries ago. They first select the right tree, fell it and then cut it into the appropriate size and shape. Such log houses therefore retain the distinct characteristics of the tree or trees they were made out of. Many people prefer this and instead of paint use polish to retain the look. On the other hand, milled log houses are the brain child of the industrial era and are made of wooden planks that are of equal size and shape. These usually come with interlocking mechanism and fit together well. If you want the best of both the worlds you can always have a conventional stud framed house with wood siding to make it look like log houses.
