Fertility Centers May Be A Couple's Last Hope
Unfortunately, many men and women struggle with infertility, but there are fertility centers in several cities and states across the country that help couples trying to conceive. Fertility centers specialize in numerous different areas, such as in vitro fertilization, hormone imbalances, surrogacy, and sperm and egg donations.
Many causes of infertility in men and women can be treated with hormone injections or fertility drugs. Fertility centers have doctors who can prescribe and administer these treatments to help couples conceive. If there are no possible treatments for a condition, treatments are not working, or the couple is same sex, the staff at fertility centers can enlist a donor or set couples up with a surrogate mother. These can become long, arduous, and often costly processes, but for some couples, they are the only options if they ever want to build a family.
When it comes to taking injections or hormone prescriptions, fertility centers administer these for daily usage and ask for monthly check-ups. The doctors at a fertility center may recommend for a female to take regular ovulation tests to increase the chance of a successful conception and pregnancy tests to see if the woman becomes pregnant and can stop taking medications that may interfere with proper development of the fetus. These types of treatments can take anywhere from a few months to over a year before a positive result is reached.
If a couple opts for sperm or egg donation or a surrogate mother, this can take years before the right individual is found. Fertility centers regularly take sperm and egg donations and build anonymous profiles of those individuals' biological characteristics. A couple looking for a donor can sift through these profiles like a catalog, choosing which traits they want their potential child to have. Surrogate mothers can be a lot more difficult to choose because they are not anonymous and a relationship needs to already exist or be built between the mother and couple. Many same-sex couples choose a surrogate mother who they already know because the process of adopting a child can take years. A great deal of care is put into choosing a surrogate in order to ensure all parental rights go to the couple.
With all of the services that fertility centers offer, they are a significant asset to society today. Fertility centers are oftentimes a couple's last hope for conceiving a child and the time, money, and effort it takes for the chance at building a family with a partner is well worth it.
